Fun Friday - Post-It Note Holder

Welcome to another Fun Friday! This week is another simple project for newbie stampers. We're going to make a Post-It note holder. These are quick to whip for quick little tuck-ins or spur of the moment gifts.

                                           

You will need just a few simple supplies:

• Heavyweight cardstock for base or liner
• Designer paper or decorative cardstock
• Your favorite adhesive (I used my ATG gun)
• Ribbon
• Embellishments of choice
• Post-It notes

Step 1 - Cut heavyweight cardstock to 7" x 3.25"

Step 2 - If using the Scor-Pal, move the cardstock to the 1/4" line, score at 3.5" and again at 4".

If using this layer as a liner, add your decorative cardstock to the front. Attach ribbon, then attach your decorative front. Adhere your Post-It note to the inside between the scored lines.

That's it.  A quick, easy, fun little gift!  Perfect for a Fun Friday.

Fun Friday Gift Card Holder Tutorial

Welcome to another Fun Friday! It's the time of year for weddings and graduations so I thought a quick and simple gift card holder tutorial might be fun. Those of  you who have made cards or scrapped for awhile may already know how to do this but there are always new stampers who are looking for ways to expand their skills.

Both of these gift card holders are exactly the same size but by changing the colors and paper they look totally different.  Are you ready? You need only a few supplies to get started.

One half sheet of 80-110 lb. cardstock

Magnetic snaps OR 1/2 of a circle of sticky backed velcro

1/4" Scor-Tape or Red Tape

Decorative papers/embellishment of choice

I'm going to show you just the basics and let you decorate and embellish to your heart's content. :-)

Score your cardstock at 2" and again at 6". It doesn't matter which side you choose for the pocket or top. I chose the side scored at 6" which is the 2 1/2" side. Now decorate and embellish as desired.

Here's a little tip to ensure that your magnetic stamp or velcro is properly aligned. Place the two pieces of your magnet together. Remove the sticky backing on the top piece and place. Now remove the bottom sticky backing and press in place.

Fun Friday - Altered Notepad Tutorial

Welcome to another Fun Friday!!  I've got a tutorial to show you how to turn this regular notepad...                                      

into This...

Problem - Need lots of little gifts, small budget, and no time to create.

Solution - These quick and cute little personalized notepads.  Just the right shape to tuck into a purse or backpack,  jot a grocery list or keep your computer passwords safe.

I'm going to show you how to make a template to use so that you don't need to take your notebooks apart each time.  This allows you to make one of these little beauties in minutes.

First, cut a piece of heavyweight (80-110 lb. cardstock) 3 1/8" x 5 1/8".  This will be your template so you want it to be sturdy.  Unbend one end of the wire spiral and turn to remove it completely.  After making your template, you will never have to do this part again!  Lay the cover of the notepad over your template making sure ends are even and mark each hole.

Using a paper punch to match the hole size, punch through each hole.  Use scissors to cut from the top edge just to the center of each hole.  This will allow you make future covers without removing the wire because you can just press the edges through the wire!  Easy Peasy time saver.  Gotta love that!

Now choose your papers for the front and the back.   Round the edges with a paper rounder to match the notepad.  Note:  You may want to round the edges of the  original notepad cover  as well since they're done by machine and aren't always nice and neat.

I use Tombow Mono-Multi to glue the covers on.  Make sure to line your hole up.  Replace the wire.

Decorate as desired and you're finished!

Fun Friday - Boxes, Bags, Books &... No Chocolate!

Hi and welcome to another Fun Friday. No boxes, bags or books  or chocolate today. Sorry chocoholics!

I've used the cupcake wrapper template from The Cutting Cafe for this sweet little wrap up. It goes together in minutes and turns an ordinary cupcake into an extraordinary little gift to brighten someone's day... birthday or any day! I used my sewing machine to add stitching along the base and border of the cupcake wrapper and cut the scalloped edge with my good ol' scalloped scissors... remember those?

Easy, peasy.

Fun Friday - Boxes, Bags, Books and Chocolate!

Hi Everyone and welcome back to another Fun Friday. Today, I have a fun project for you. Our grandson loves sports... ALL sports and all kids love to see their name on things. My DH happened to pick up this baseball schedule (free) at Lowe's.

My DH thought our grandson would like to follow his favorite teams and there are some cool baseball facts in there as well. One problem... this book would never last very long in the hands of an almost 5 year old, so of course I had to alter it. I wanted to keep to the blue and green theme as each page is bordered in a grass image and I had to add his name and that cutie patootie baseball player.

You can apply this technique to any book or pamphlet so I'll just give you the basics on how to do it.

Measure your book or pamphlet's length and width. Score the top and bottom  of your cut cardstock at 1/2" mark. Score the center to make it easier to fold.  Mine is scored at 4" & 4 1/8". Cut out the corners to the score marks. 

Trim the corners at an angle for easier folding and tape or glue down.

Cut another piece of cardstock at 5 1/8" x 3 3/8". Tape over the folded ends. 

Now you've got a sturdy and gift worthy presentation and it was practically free. Gotta love that!

I made a matching card to go with mine.

Fun Friday- Boxes, Bags, Books, and Bunnies!

Welcome to another Fun Friday.  Today's project is a quick and easy one.  Something you can whip up when you want to let someone know you're thinking of them and you have just a few minutes to spare.  Of course, Fun Fridays have to have chocolate somewhere and today is no different.

I've brought the M&M card that I created for Scor-Pal a few years ago out of hiding. Before I show you how to make the card, I've got to tell you about those cute bunnies.  My sister sent me an Easter card a few years ago that had nine of these cute bunnies on the front. Yep, I saved that card front! The center bunny was already popped on a dimensional so that made it even easier. I just cut out the bunnies, mounted them on some white cardstock and done. How's that for cute recycling?

Ok, here's how you make this super quick little card that can be mailed in a regular size envelope that you can fancy up if you'd like.

Start with a half sheet of cardstock. 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" Place the cardstock lengthwise on your Scor-Pal and score at 2",  2 1/2",  5 1/2" and 6". 

Fold on the score lines to look like this:

Decorate the outside as desired. Place a velcro dot on the top flap, then place the 2nd half of the dot on top of the first. (takes the guess work out of where to place the bottom dot) Now, close the M&M holder and press the 2nd dot into place. 

Stick a small bag of M&M's on the inside with adhesive or double-sided tape, add a greeting and you're done!

Fun Friday - Bags, Boxes, Books and Chocolate!

Thanks for joining us for another "Fun Friday" project!  This week's project is a magical two for one.  How do you turn a card into a box?  Are you ready?.....here's the card.

This card uses the butterfly template from The Cutting Cafe. You can use just about ANY shaped card template to make a box.  I printed my template onto 110 lb. plain cardstock for the card base, then printed the shaped card front onto K&Co. Brenda Walton Chelsea Pink Glitter paper.  The antennae and body were printed separately and then glittered with Eggplant Art Institute glitter.  Now, here's the box!

Here's the recipe for turning any shaped card template into boxes...so easy.

1. Print the shaped card template.

2.  Cut the template into two pieces.  They will become your front and back.  If desired, print and cut extra layers for decorating.

3.  Here's the magic box part.....Know in advance what you want to put in your box.  I wanted the flexibility to fill with candy or small travel sizes (Bath and Body type) of soap and/or lotion so I've found that a 2" wide finished width is about right.  You can make yours bigger or smaller. 

I cut my cardstock 3" x 11".     Measure your template across the bottom where you want your base to sit.  My example here is 31/2" across the base.  Score. (dark lines added for easier visibility)

4.  Measure from one scored edge to where you want the top of your box to sit.  Trim each side equally if necessary, then score a 1/2" line down the length of each side.  (this is a sample only..my center width is 2").  Use your scissors to snip each side to the scored line.

Add a tacky tape (Scor-Tape or Redline) to each section.  You should have 3 taped edges on each side.

Apply the bottom edge to one side of your box then up each side.  Repeat on the second side.

Fun Fridays - Bags, Boxes, Books and Chocolate!!

Hi!  I'm Charlene, one of the new DT members for Posh Designs Scrapbook Store.  I'm so thrilled to be bringing you, what I call...Fun Fridays - Books, Bags, Boxes, and Chocolate!  I'm hoping to bring you a variety of projects that will spark your imagination for use in your home and gift giving. 

Some of you may know me as the creator of the Chocolate Book on SCS, but you've never seen it like this...come to think of it, neither have I!  This is my very first attempt at Vintage Shabby Chic. 

I wasn't sure what I had on hand to achieve what I had in my head since I've never done this style before, so the first thing I did was study the Posh Designs Gallery.  There are some super talented creators there! You're really missing some great eye candy if you haven't visited PDSS forum yet!  Then I went digging through my stash.  Here are some of the items I assembled initially.  You'll notice that there are a few things that didn't get used and a few that aren't pictured because I dug them out as I began to put my book together.  Do you create like that?

Here are a few of the "Must Haves":  The inside template for the book pages (tell you about that in a minute),  1/8" Scor-Tape or Redline tape, your choice of Designer papers (I used K&Co. Classic K, and Webster's Pages Lullaby Lane/Life's Portrait combo pack), embellishments and Chocolate!  I've found that Hershey bars fit the best without too much bulk.  The rest is up to your imagination. 

One of the first things I did was take a length of sheer ivory ribbon and heat it up with my heat gun.  This made the ribbon crinkle and melt just a bit.  Perfect! 

Next,  I used Spellbinders Heart dies to cut a few hearts from some recycled chipboard.  I placed the hearts just as they were inside a small box, gave them a spritz of spray adhesive, then sprinkled on Martha Stewart Crystal glitter. Another quick spritz of adhesive and they got a bit Martha Stewart Smoky Quartz glitter as well. 

I finished off the edges with a bit of sponging using Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress ink. 

I gave the sheer glittered butterfly a spritz of adhesive and sprinkled it with the Smoky Quartz only.  It came with some glitter already on it but it was just a bit too white for my design.

Do you see the flower above the butterfly and below the ribbon?  I so wanted to use a flower but my rose was too big, the small Prima roses I have were too small, so like Goldilocks, I went looking for one that was "just right".  I found a medium sized rather plain looking white paper flower in my stash.   Not too exciting, right?  I put it in my cardboard box (found that idea on the Posh forum!) then grabbed my bottle of Sugar Cookie Glimmer Mist and gave it a couple of good sprays.  After I dried it with my heat gun, I folded it up, tied the base with twine, clipped off the point, added a glue dot then tucked it under the butterfly.  It added some dimension, filled the space and added a bit of soft color.

You can see how I gave the butterfly and the heart some "lift" with buttons that I stuck on with glue dots.  The flower was able to be tucked under the butterfly this way.

Here are some photos of the inside of the book:  The insert page is held by a strip of 1/8" Scor-Tape that I ran down the inside of the "spine". 

I covered the front of each chocolate bar to make it a bit more elegant.
