A lesson to learn

Cooking 101..... Grandma and mom gave me a lesson on making toffee!!! This is a lesson I paid close attention to. Every year grandma makes all the goodies for the holidays, this year I really needed to learn how to make it myself. I even took pictures of the recipe. Amazingly my grandma told me she typed the recipe in 1952!!! For Christmas I got wooden spoons (which I didn't have), and a candy thermometer...both which I need to make this wonderful candy! Next year I plan on trying it on my own :)

For this layout I used Cosmo Crickets Eary Bird line. I thought this was the perfect line to use. The paper reminds me of a vintage look. Not to mention the fun pictures that come with it on the elements sheet such as the blender at the top of the page. Even the word "Yummy" was on the elements sheet. I popped it up on a piece of chipboard to give it some demention. I added some thickers, buttons, and also used making memories mini alphas.

Hope you've enjoyed my cooking layout :) Head over to the posh store and grab some YUMMY goodies of your own. What better way to start the new year out then with some new stuff to play with.

14 Years later...

I know... LOVE is not a typical title for a wintery page, but is the best title for this picture. My husband and I have been together for 14 years this month. Our daughter snapped this picture of us while we were taking our family photos for our Holiday cards. This is one of the few pictures we have together. One of us always seems to have the camera in our hands, so it's rare that we get a fun picture of us together!

Now for the fun stuff... What did I use you ask??? Well let me tell you. First I used some pink glimmer mist on my white card stock. I'm new to the misting but I am lovin' it!!! The pattern paper I used was Cosmo Crickets Jolly by Golly paper line. I actually used 5 different sides of this paper. Grabbed a couple of matching stickers form the same line, and cut out a little image off of the elements sheet. Added a button and a chipboard heart to which I added pattern paper to. Did a little journaling with a red tip marker and my page was done.

Hope you've enjoyed my layout, and I hope your holiday season is filled with love as well.

Thanks for stopping by...

Snowflake Fun

Soon it will be that time of year, snowflakes will be falling everywhere you go! As for me I don't mind the snow, but hate to drive in it!

I did however find a couple of snowflakes that I don't mind, I picked up three wooden snowflakes at the dollar store. I saw them on the shelf and thought to myself... PROJECT!!!

So here is what I did to spice up these plain wooden flakes!

Step 1: I started by picking out some pattern paper. I used the Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses line. I am using 3 different pattern papers, but you could use all 3 the same. You need to trace your snowflakes on to the paper then cut them out. They dont have to be cut exactlly to fit.

Step 2: Adhere your paper to the flakes. I used mod podge. You can just dip a foam brush in the mod podge and paint it on your wood then place your paper on top. Make sure you allow enough time for it to dry.

Step 3: File all the edges down. I used the Basic Grey filling tool set for this. It worked great because there are many different sizes of files in there to get in and around the corners of the flakes.

Step 4: Sparkle time.....I put stickles all over all 3 snowflakes. They now have that sparkle that a fresh blanket of snow has. I allowed this to dry overnight.

Step 5: I used a hot glue gun to attach the 3 snowflakes together. I just attached them at the edge.

Step 6: Grab all your goodies from your room and decorate. I added a couple of buttons, ribbon and some stickers to spell out the word SNOW. You may want to use glue dots or super sticky tape. With the stickles on there regular adhesive had a problem sticking.

Step 7: Last but not least, I tied ribbon around part of the snowflakes on the outside to turn it into something to hang on the wall, or a door. Now your done and your have a fun winter hanging.

Hope you've enjoyed today's quick and easy festive project, until next week!

Clearly Counting Down The Days...

I am in love with the way this project turned out. So much so I think i'm going to make one that I can use for the entire year.

Isn't this such a fun way to countdown to Christmas?????

I took a plastic frame from the store, it's the kind of frame that the picture slides into and has the flat bottom so that it stands up.

First I had hubby drill 4 holes in the top of the frame to hold the numbers up with my rings. The rings work great because it makes the numbers so easy to flip over as the time draws near!!!

If you can't drill holes in the top I do have another idea for you. You could put velcro on the back of your numbers and on the frame to hold the numbers up.

Next I painted the edges of the frame and the numbers before I did anything else.

Then I picked out the paper I wanted to use. I loved the little snowman circles on Cosmo Crickets Golly by Jolly line so I used that.

You can see behind the word Christmas is where I put the snowman. Grabbed a bunch of embelies that matched and sat down to work. I did some stamping with a swirl stamp I had, and some with a snowflake stamp. For the stamping I used Staz-On ink. This way I knew it would not rub off.

Now for my numbers. I found this acrylic like paper and used that. I'm sure you could use transparency paper also. I cut the acrylic 2 inches wide by 3 inches long. You will need at least 12, 13 if you want to put "08" when there are only 8 days left. Make sure your holes on the numbers line up with the holes on your frame.

Hope you enjoyed my coundown til Christmas project! HO!HO!HO!

O' Christmas Tree - Mod Podge Ornament

I thought this might be a fun project to make with the kids for the holiday season. It's fun to make, but a little messy!

Cut your patterned paper into 1/2 x 1/2 inch squares. Place you ornament on a piece of computer paper to keep the glue contained. (don't use newspaper as the ink may come off onto your patterned paper when you put the glue on).

Hold the top of the ornament with one hand and use your brush to put the modge podge on one part of the ornament. Apply enough glue for maybe 2 squares of paper to start.

Next you will need to place a couple squares of paper over the glue then press firmly to adhere then brush on more glue and glue in more paper. Make sure you overlap the paper squares on one another.

Once you have all of your paper on the entire ornament, completely cover with a coat of modge podge. At this time I also put liquid pearls around the top of the ornament to look like snow then let the entire thing dry overnight.

You are now ready to decorate as you please. You can add some beads, ribbons, adhesive pearls, Stickles for some glitter effect...

You now have a cool, fun, homemade ornament for your Christmas tree.

Stacy

Supply List:
Paper mache/blank ornament (I picked this one up at the dollar store)
Mod podge / waterbase sealer and a brush to apply with
3 strips of 1/2 by 12 inch patterned paper
Ribbons, beads, and buttons
Liquid Pearls (Ranger)
Stickles (Ranger) or Glitter Glue
and any other fun things you'd want to use to decorate!

N - O - E - L

I have been in the holiday spirit since this weekends snow flurries. I grabbed some of my stencils and thought this would make a wonderful wall hanging.

First, I chose the 4 sides of patterned paper I wanted to use. The paper collection is from Basic Grey's Eskimo Kisses Collection Pack. Simply LOVE it!!! I then traced the letters onto the patterned paper. To put the paper on the letters I used modge podge so I didn't have to worry about the paper coming off. Once it was dry I used a file to smooth the edges down.

Now for some inking. I used creamy caramel ink for the edges. If you are going to ink your edges make sure you do this before you put your embelishments on!

Decorating your letters. I used ribbon, brads, flowers and some of the FABULOUS stickers that come with the Eskimo Kisses paper kit. The santa on the letter "N" came with it. Doesn't he look so cute!!! :)

Putting it all together was a breeze! I punched holes at the bottom and/or the top. (depending on what letter I was doing). Tied them together and there you have it. A cute, fun and easy to make holiday wall hanging.

This would make great gifts for family, friends, co-workers and for all of your holiday gift giving exchanges. The letters I used were about 2-3 inches tall. You could make 3-4 wall hangings with 1 sheet of 12x12 pattern paper. In this paper kit you'll have enough papers and stickers to make wall hangings, holiday cards, gift tags, and layouts!!!

HOHOHO!!! Happy Scrappin'

Tis' The Season

Yesterday, in the Illinois we received a little taste of the snow that is to come our way very soon!!!! (snow in October..... How crazy!!) Anyway this put me in the Christmas spirit. Since it was too cold outside to do anything, I did what any normal person would do!! I grabbed a cup of coffee and headed into my scrapbook room to play. What else was I suppose to do????

I'm sitting at my table looking at Basic Grey's Eskimo Kisses line!!!!! I love the unique colors in their papers for Christmas. Now the only thing missing was an idea. (and of course Christmas music....which my family would think I was crazy if I started playing this in October!!!

So I started cutting the paper and placing it where I think I'd want it and it needed something else!!! I grabbed my caramel ink which went great with the paper. Punched out a couple of circles, and added some ribbon and a bit of embossing.... and this is what I came up with. Now I just need to make about 50 more and my Christmas cards will be done!!!!! HOHOHO!!!

Head over to the Posh Store where you can grab this line or even Crate Paper fabulous and new North Pole collection and get a jump start on your Holiday cards! It'll be time to mail them out before you know it! HOHOHO!!!

OH BOY!!!!

Ok, so on the forum I recently read a comment about someone having a hard time with boy layouts. I also have this problem....I have a daughter and I am use to ribbons, flowers, you know foo foo girly stuff!!! So I made this card for my nephews birthday (with no girly stuff on it).

I used the Cosmo Cricket Snorkel line, which you can grab over at the Posh Store, along with many other fabulous papers that work GREAT for boy layouts! The colors in this line of paper remind me of boy colors, and I used the submarines that were on one of the pattern paper to add some boy flare to it!!!

Hope this helps in the boy creativity! Don't forget to grab the other FABULOUS lines of paper over at the store and don't forget to upload your boy layouts to the gallery for us all to see!!

Good luck and HAPPY SCRAPPIN'!!

Organization is key!!!

This is for all of you who simply love to organize... I took a steno notebook from a local office supply store and altered it to fit my needs!!!

Since I made the Posh Design Team (and what a fabulous team it is) I thought what better way to keep track of everything! I made nifty little dividers for the side. One for every month. I tied ribbon across the top to hide the spiral binding and give it a little more flare!!!

My choice of paper is Sassafras!!! I simply love this paper. I used two different lines. I choose the Vintage Yummy and Anthem line. One of the wonderful things about this paper is you can mix and match styles and it works great together and looks FABULOUS!!

Just a Peek.....

Giving gifts is so fun for me!!! What's even better is when you give a gift that keeps on giving!

We bought our daughter a new computer ( gift #1 ). She has a cat who just loves boxes....well she cut a hole in the box for the cat to go in and out of ( gift #2 cat toy!). Luis was over at our house this weekend and he decided to play in the box as well. He took in a pillow and just relaxed in there ( gift # 3 )!!!

I better put cardboard boxes on my christmas gift list for this year, I think....

So I ended up with an awesome picture of Luis in the box, off I went and checked out my stash of paper!!! I just loooove Cosmo Cricket's paper. Especially, the Snorkel line it's just FABULOUS!

It has a great variety of colors which makes it easy to use with and for anything you wish. Along with the pattern papers it has a great 12x12 sheet of elements. The elements allow you to cut them out and use them anywhere on your cards or layouts as extra embelishments. There is also a fun border page which you can do the same thing with. The border page has the best sayings on it. I used one at the bottom of my page. The saying was just tooooo cute!!!

Wether you use Cosmo Cricket's line as squares, circles, or stripes it just rocks!!! Make sure you stop by the Posh store and check out all of the Cosmo Crickets lines. While you're there don't forget to grab some ribbons and rub-ons to help accent it all!

Until next time... Happy Scrappin'.
