KISS (Keep It Simple Saturdays) with Michelle - Using Foam and Metal

Happy Saturday everyone! This is an extremely busy time of year for me as many of my family and friends are celebrating birthdays. Crafting many cards while trying to keep each one distinctive, creative yet simple has sort of become a challenge for me. So first up in my series of birthday cards is about using alternative materials as either an embellishment or part of your card design.

I was inspired by one of my former blog post I created for Cricut Tuesdays (although there was no Cricut involved in that project). It was the use of metal from a pop can, embossed and then layered onto cardfront mixed in with patterned paper, ribbon and stamps. My layered front of the card ended up to be crooked but that was okay by me. Besides I don't think my husband noticed! This is take two of that same concept and should you be interested in how you can safely and simply use metal in your next project; in the search engine here on this blog, just type in Cricut Tuesdays + metal and that should lead you to my original tutorial (should there be any difficulty, please let me know).

The next card was created with my Son in mind. I often love to use bold bright colors and geometric shapes. This was no exception. However I wanted to be 'inventive' so I created my embellishments out of craft foam. Using my Big Shot and the Stars #2 die, I made these die cuts, layered them together and then affixed a brad in the centre of each one before adhering the whole piece onto the cardfront. I am amazed on the dimension craft foam creates, how easily it cuts through and yet it is a light product that will not add significant weight onto your project.

Think outside the paper box and use alternative materials such as foam or metal onto your next card or layout. I'd bet you'll be surprised! As I am reminded again that really 'any' cuttable material can be used on a project, those 'materials' are just as simple to work just like paper.

Until next Saturday, Happy Crafting!
